Men under 6 feet need not apply
I’m thinking of starting a business. When it comes to hiring, I will not hire any men below the height of 6 feet tall. Why, you may ask? Because these men are obviously not as masculine as their taller counterparts. They may not even be able to reach things on the top shelf of the supply closet. The ways they would hold my business back would be innumerable. I’m happy to explain.
First, men who are below 6 feet are known to feel inferior because they aren’t as tall as they should be. They will likely bring that insecurity into the workplace, which will distract them from their work as they longingly look at the men who are over 6 feet tall. Fellow co-workers will likely discount his thoughts and opinions because he is "less than" he should be as a man. He wouldn’t even understand the needs of a man over 6 feet tall because he isn’t one, and that will cause confusion in his role.
When it comes to who I will hire, it’s anyone over 6 feet tall. The qualifications they have won’t matter because I think men over 6 feet tall are superior to everyone else. What that means is, I don’t care if you have 20 years of experience in the type of business I’m opening or if you have proof of being the best in the business. If you don’t reach 6 feet tall, then you clearly can’t handle the job. Don’t get me wrong, men under 6 feet can absolutely do the job I’m looking to fill, but I prefer tall men to work for my company.
If you are a man under 6 feet tall, a post like this may annoy you (if it were a real job), but it’s obviously being used as an example of how denying employment based on something you have no control over is not only unfair—it’s un-American. I was taught that we are a melting pot, and that’s what made our country so great. Is illegal border crossing a problem? Yes, and it was addressed with a great bill that would serve many purposes, such as adding more agents at the border, instituting stricter entry restrictions, and allocating more money to keep things running efficiently. BUT the rich, white man told his people not to vote for the bill—the one that Republicans actually wrote and had everything they wanted in it—because he doesn’t really care about border security. But he still has you believing that he does.
The reason DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) was even needed in this country is that people tend to flock toward others who look like them. I think it’s human nature to initially want to surround yourself with people who resemble you, as it makes you feel more comfortable. Since it’s mostly been white men in power for the lifespan of this country, there had to be a way to include people from different backgrounds. That includes white women. In fact, the biggest beneficiaries of DEI and the EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) are white women. Men didn’t want them around the office because they don’t see women as equals and wanted to be able to do their “locker room” talk—i.e., sexually explicit conversations about their experiences with or desires for women. Women are fine to have around the office to be a little eye candy, someone to flirt with, or someone to boss around—but good Lord, don’t put them in the office area where men are expected to take them seriously.
I was once told by someone in a position to hire that they would never exclude someone because they’re gay. I said, "Maybe you wouldn’t, but there are others who will." And that goes for Black, brown, and every other type of person who is trying to make a living in this country. But there are certain marginalized groups that have been so demonized at this point that they will never find jobs, especially with all these protections stripped away. And I hope every man under 6 feet tall (at least) can now imagine what that must feel like.
The people who live in this country and don’t look like you aren’t bad people. They’ve been scapegoated by rich, white men so they can raid your pockets and tell you it’s because of the people who aren’t “supposed to be here.” Some of them are, and some of them aren’t. But every person is human, and that’s something that seems to have been lost lately. I really hope that Americans will realize soon that the people working on the farms, in the hotels, and in the kitchens aren’t the ones who are taking your money and opportunities. It’s the ones with all the money, charging whatever they want for everything, and giving jobs to friends because they’re a “really good guy” but have no qualifications.
